My thoughts on “Succession”

I just watched the first two seasons of “Succession” on HBO. Overall, I enjoyed it. The corporate shenanigans, people fucking people over, tough family “love”. Most of the characters are interesting, but some of the stop being compelling as the season goes on. The joke are funny, but sometimes the tonal balance seems off.

The best thing about the show is the intro music, the song slaps. It was so good that maybe I was only watching it for the intro music, a kind of Pavlovian response. The thing I did not enjoy was the camera work. There are random smooth zoom-ins through out the series and usually come out of nowhere. Its so jarring. I think there were trying to go for a documentary style, but the show isn't really set-up in that way, so the zooms are quite out of place.

All things considering, it was interesting enough for me to look forward to the next season to see how the story continues.
